I remember someone saying ‘We spend six weeks training surfers in Santa Clara and then go hiring MDs over a coffee, and wonder where it goes wrong…’
Prior to that I remember the camaraderie, partly because cross-departmental tensions rarely existed because roles were so indescribable. It was just about getting things done together.
Trusted to make a call, the role of producer was a fantastic one to play. So much exposure to so many things. Where else today would I get a role that required me to meet Prince Charles, rewire Paul McCartney’s stereo, host about 50 people at a World Cup, cover massive news stories (often while drunk at weekends and Christmas) alongside a day job of launching groundbreaking products as part of an amazing team.
